Matthew Cox is the founder and President of Capitol Partners. Matt has more than 25 years of experience as a lobbyist, attorney, political operative, and public relations consultant. His government experience includes service with the Ohio Auditor of State and the position of Senior Deputy Attorney General in the office of Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro.

Matt’s experience in government, politics, and public relations has helped national organizations such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Boeing, Facebook, PhRMA, the Walton Foundation, and others maximize their advocacy and public relations efforts in Ohio. Matt’s work with Ohio-based clients includes representing private companies, non-profit organizations, and education interests. Matt is considered one of the foremost experts in education policymaking, having worked to pass over 30 separate pieces of legislation expanding and improving education opportunities for school children and parents. Specifically, Matt’s work with special needs education law has created and expanded life-changing options for special needs school children, allowing parents to choose the best educational environment for their child’s special needs. Matt founded Capitol Partners as a solo practitioner. With the support of his partners, he has built the firm into one of the largest independent lobbying and media relations firms in Ohio, with offices in Cleveland and Columbus, representing over 50 clients from all parts of the country.

Matt is a graduate of John Carroll University and Cleveland Marshall College of Law. Matt has volunteered and served on the board of the United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Cleveland, Cleveland After School All Stars, the YMCA of Greater Cleveland, School Choice Ohio, the John Carroll University Board of Regents and the Ohio Lottery Commission. Matt lives in Avon with his wife Diane and their three children
